Take in The View at the Marriott Marquis Times Square
By Marcia Frost

Manhattan is full of restaurants and clubs with great views, but there’s only one place that gives you both in New York City’s only revolving rooftop.

The top of the Marriott Marquis Times Square offers a unique experience that you can change to suit your needs for the evening. It consists of The View Lounge and The View Restaurant, 48 stories high with their own private elevator to take you to the top in style. Once upstairs, a revolving floor completes the 360 degree turn every hour so you don’t miss a thing.

The View Lounge is the place for casual dining and wonderful cocktails. The food options here are all buffet, but unlike many places, you choose whether you want to have the dinner buffet with salads, hot entrees and pastas, or just nibble of cheeses and dessert (which includes a chocolate fondue fountain for dipping).

As for drinks, be prepared to experience an array of cocktails to suit everyone’s taste. There are two signature cocktails, The Top of the View is delicious, with Bacardi Superior, Malibu Rum, guava based fruit juice and a topping of Pyrat XO Rum, and The View Fizz with Absolut Vodka, mango puree, Hiram Walker Mango Schnapps, fresh lime juice, Mumm Cuvee Sparkling Wine and a dash of Clinton Vineyard Cassis.

The View Lounge also has quite the martini collection, including a Tiramisu (Van Gogh Double Espresso Vodka, Kahlua, Stolichnaya Vanilla Vodka, Frangelico, Butterscotch Schnapps and I.O. ice cream) and seasonal choices, like a yummy Winter Peach (Stolichnaya Peachick Vodka, Peach Schnapps, white cranberry juice and sweetened lime juice). You will also find a selection of high balls and margaritas, in addition to a choice of “Mocktails” for those who do not want to imbibe.

In The View Restaurant, there is a pre-fix ($67, but subject to change) pre-theater dinner menu that includes an appetizer and an entree. The dishes of Chef Ronald Camillo include simple favorites with a little extra, such as roasted salmon with scarlet runner ragu and broccolini in a saffron sherry vinaigrette. The restaurant also has a three course dinner menu available if you have more time. It is also pre-fixe. For a little more, you receive dessert and additional choices on the appetizer and entrees items, such as a Berkshire pork chop with sweet potato hash, wilted kale and spiced apple sauce. Sunday Brunch at The View Restaurant is a buffet with: assorted imported cheeses; breads and pastries; mezzas and tapenades; fish and seafood; omelet and waffle stations; meat carvings; and hot selections that include stuffed French toast and eggs benedict. A large dessert buffet is also included.

Of course, the main reason for visiting The View is the view. While you are sipping your drinks or enjoying the food options, you will be able to see the skyline of New York City like never before, as well as views of the Hudson River. It’s an experience both visitors and Manhatanites relish and can be the perfect girlfriends retreat or romantic getaway. Just leave the kids at home as it’s adults-only after 9:00 pm.

Both The View Restaurant and The View Lounge are open seven days a week. The lounge has a cover charge after 8:00 pm.
