If you like rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous and luxuriating in creature comforts that go above and beyond, Los Cabos is the place. Where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific is called Land's End and that’s where the luxury begins, especially along the 20-mile stretch between Cabos San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo called “The Corridor”. And since ALL the beaches in The Capes (Los Cabos) are open to the public, you never know who you might run into taking a stroll along the sand. Baja California Sur has always been a VIP magnet, a place where they can go barefoot and bare-faced and mingle stress-free among the friendly locals in relative privacy. Stars who like to cavort around Cabos include Cameron Diaz, Robert De Niro, Leonardo di Caprio, Jennifer Anniston, Courtney Cox, Oprah, Christina Aguilera, Nicole Richie, Justin Beiber, Selena Gomez, Hayden Panettiere and Gwyneth Paltrow to name just a few…

Where to stay
We scoped out three resorts along the corridor - each with their own individual vibe- and all offering upscale all-inclusive plans. And everywhere we went, celebs of note had been there before.

For Zen-like ambience and healthy lifestyle options, your best bet is Zoëtry Casa del Mar an AAA Four Diamond resort and a member of the Preferred Boutique Hotels of the World. With only 63 exceptionally large ocean-front suites spread over a vast tropical oasis, the ambience is chill and the surroundings are serene. I especially enjoyed their huge infinity pool hot tub looking out onto the sea. Endless Privileges® is their trademark program that includes top shelf spirits, fine dining and 24/7 room service, and their guest enrichment offerings also include health, wellness and nutrition consultations and meal plans. Their Sueños del Mar Spa specializes in seaside and inside therapeutic treatments of every kind. Melissa Joan Hart stayed there recently.

For celestial scenery and wildly romantic vistas, the adult-exclusive Secrets Marquis Los Cabos is a heavenly haven. A member of The Leading Hotels of the World and also an AAA Four Diamond property, it features Unlimited-Luxury® among 235 spacious suites which means top shelf spirits, gourmet food and 24/7 room service. They also have private casitas for additional privacy with rooftop soaking pools and decks. This resort has also recently taken the upscale all-inclusive concept up a notch by including unlimited spa treatments in their offerings. Guests can choose from many different pampering options at their Secrets Spa by Pevonia during their stay. They also offer a wide range of on-site guest enrichment programs like archery, yoga, cooking classes, dance classes, water aerobics, tequila tastings, wine pairings, Spanish lessons and more. They have six a la carte restaurants and you can also dine at their sister resort Dreams next door as part of a sip Sip, Savor & See program. Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon have stayed there, and George Clooney’s beach house is just a few yards down the beach!

For family-friendly fun, yet still with upscale adult amenities, Dreams Los Cabos Suites Golf Resort & Spa is just the spot. A sprawling hacienda open-air style resort offering a signature Unlimited-Luxury® program, it has five restaurants and four bars and everything is included. If you want to go off property for a change of scenery, there is a complimentary shuttle service to visit El Paraiso Mall’s shops, restaurants and night clubs. Their supervised Explorers Club for children gives parents time to luxuriate in the Dreams Spa by Pevonia, play golf at world class courses, or reconnect in the adult-only pool and swim-up bar. This resort is also part of the Caray Green Sea Turtle Release program where guests can participate in helping the fragile hatchlings get to the sea safely from June through October.

What to do
There is so much marine life to discover in the region that Jacques Cousteau once called it the “aquarium of the world.” Sea lions, whales, manta rays, sea turtles and hundreds of species of colourful fish and coral are all waiting to be discovered through snorkel or dive trips. Whale watching tours are also a huge draw during their mating season from December until March. Surfing on the restless Sea of Cortes is also big-Adam Sandler likes to hang ten there a lot. And luxury yacht charters or guided sailing excursions are also great seafaring options.

On land, the terrestrial treasures also abound including world class golf at 8 courses, and offbeat tours like a camel safari and extreme zip lining adventures. Desert exploration by all kinds of vehicles is also possible, but one of the best ways to travel this rugged region is on horseback. Superior horses and instruction can be found at Cuadra San Francisco, their founder is a master horseman and professional trainer. This ranch is a favourite of Brittany Spears and Cindy Crawford.

You can also enjoy the area from above by parasailing, or via a unique ultra-light flight. There are many dining spots and café/bars but if you want to enjoy some seriously authentic regional cuisine then you should tour the organic farm and take some cooking classes or simply dine at Huerta Los Tamarindos. And if retail therapy is your way to relax, then The Shoppes at Palmilla have unique designer items and is also a good spot to rub shoulders with the rich famous as this is a favourite shopping haunt for VIPs.
